Westgate Park Mural
Friends of the Hilltop is proud to have supported the Friends of Westgate Park's mural project by acting as the fiscal agent for the project.
Friends of Westgate Park is pleased to sponsor award-winning artist Curtis Goldstein in commemorating the historical significance of Camp Chase in a mural at Westgate Park. His work not only honors the role of the neighborhood during the Civil War but also beautifies the park.

Work on Mural Begins
Curtis Goldstein, the artist selected for the project, began work on the mural on July 3, 2009.
In the photos below, Curtis finishes prepping the wall with a final coat of cream paint (top photo). In the bottom photo, he is copying the mural design using an image of the sketch projected onto the wall.
Curtis completed the mural on October 4, 2009.

The sketch above is an original mural design created by Curtis after meeting with community members and attending a lifetime of Bean Dinners. The mural was installed on the 70 foot by 20 foot side wall of the handball courts in the heart of Westgate Park. It is rendered in full color, and a small sign will be installed with information on the historical figures included in the mural.
Generous contributions from the Columbus Foundation, United Way, Imagine Schools, the Greater Hilltop Area League for the Arts, United Rental, Sherwin-Williams, and individual donors helped created the mural. Anyone interested in helping add benches and landscaping around the mural can make donations to the Friends of Westgate Park.
Curtis Goldstein: An accomplished local artist, Curtis attended the Columbus College of Art and Design before graduating with a bachelor of Fine Arts from the Ohio State University. His extensive resume includes numerous murals, including local works such as George Bellows' Cliff Dwellers, restoration of the Mona Lisa mural, and the Berry Boltworks building.
Friends of Westgate Park, an all-volunteer, nonprofit organization, secured the funding for this project through grants and donations from community members.
